BML: Wide Open Wednesday

May 15, 2024

Today is the day. Not yesterday. Not tomorrow or any other day of the week. It’s today. Wednesday is the ONE day a week you can call the show and talk about anything you like. It why we call it Wide Open Wednesday.

I got frustrated yesterday. Dave Bowman brought us a compelling story of Robert Smalls, an escaped slave who was a ship pilot for his Confederate masters. Smalls stole a ship and surrendered it to the Union forces. It was one of many heroic acts Smalls accomplished in his honored life. When we got to calls in the last segment of the hour, we had two of them who showed nothing but disrespect for the show, for Dave- who spends a lot of time in preparation for these hours- and for you, the audience. Both disregarded the hard work Dave puts into these hours. Both disregarded the topic altogether and tried to go off topic. It’s the very reason we do Wide Open Wednesday, but Tuesdays at 8am (or any other time) ain’t it! Those calls became our NOT the Calls of the Day.

There are links at the bottom of the page for Dave Bowman and his podcasts where you can listen without rude interruptions. Dave hates callers and he has none.

Today, those calls would have been just fine. That said, here are some of the stories on my mind for this Wide Open Wednesday:
