An Alabama grandmother was hosting a Mother's Day celebration when she was shot and killed in front of her grandchildren, per PEOPLE.

64-year-old Gloria Crews died on Sunday (May 14) after someone opened fire at her outdoor party in Montgomery, Alabama. Montgomery police and fire medics responded to the shooting at around 7:02 p.m. but were unable to revive Crews. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Crews was reportedly shot as she was directing children into her house to safety. No arrests have been made in the shooting.

According to reports, Crews attended church in the morning before coming back home to host the Mother's Day event attended by several generations of her family.

On a GoFundMe page set up to pay for funeral expenses, Crews’s daughter, Lakesha Crews, said her mother was “a sweet and special soul."

“She was a mother, grandmother, sister, caregiver, and friend to so so many,” Lakesha adds. “She touched a lot of people with her kind words and acts.”

Central Alabama Crime Stoppers is offering $1,000 to “anyone who may have seen something or know something” and comes forward with “information that leads to the identification and arrest of the shooter.” Tony A. Garrett, Executive Director at Central Alabama CrimeStoppers, told PEOPLE that three Montgomery City Council members added $15,000 toward the total award.
