Rihanna plans to begin making her new album from scratch years after she put it off to the side.

The Grammy award-winning singer opened up about the status of her anticipated LP during the launch of Fenty Hair in Los Angeles on Monday, June 10. During an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Rihanna said she's finally ready to go back to the studio to complete her ninth studio album. The mother of two explained she's taking a fresh approach to making her next body of work. She may be "starting over" but she doesn't plan to completely ditch all the unreleased music she's made thus far.

“Music for me is a new discovery," she said. "I am re-discovering things. I have been working on the album for so long that I kind of put all of that stuff aside. And now, I’m prepared to go back in the studio. NOW I’m prepared. So I’m gonna start.”

“I’m starting over, but I don’t wanna neglect the songs that I have, so I wanna actually go back and listen to stuff with new ears, with my new perspective, and see what applies and see what I’m still in love with," she concluded.

Earlier this year, Rihanna shared another reason why she's been taking her time with R9. In her discussion with Interview magazine, she said she had plenty of visual ideas but didn't have the music to match them to.

"I have a lot of visual ideas," the singer said. "It’s weird. My brain is working backward right now. I usually have the music first, and the music leads me into all of these visual opportunities, and now I’m having all of these visuals, and I don’t have the songs for them yet, but maybe that’s the key, this time. Maybe the visual ideas are leading me to the songs that I need to make."

It's been eight years since Riri delivered her previous album ANTI. Since then, the billionaire entrepreneur has been focused on building an empire with her various beauty ventures and a family with her partner A$AP Rocky. She's put out a few records recently like "Lift Me Up," which earned her Grammy and Oscar nominations. Now it's clear she's ready to give fans what they've been craving for years.
