A Long Island man was arrested for allegedly giving fireworks to an 11-year-old boy. The Nassau County Police Department said that 33-year-old Karamjit Singh gave the boy fireworks on Thursday (July 4) and told him to light them.

Once the fireworks were lit, they misfired and struck Singh's shed, causing it to burst into flames. The fire quickly spread to Singh's house and his neighbor's home.

Dozens of firefighters rushed to the area and battled the flames for just under an hour before getting the fire under control. The fire caused extensive damage, and both homes were uninhabitable.

Luckily, there were no injuries, as the neighbors were on vacation at the time.

Singh was taken into custody and charged with arson, unlawfully selling fireworks to a person under 18, unlawfully possessing, using, or exploding fireworks, and endangering the welfare of a child.

The 11-year-old was not charged and released into the custody of a family member.
