Mac Miller Celebration 'At Risk' Amid Major Changes Ahead Of Annual Event

Fans will notice a slight change in the schedule for this year's "Celebration of Mac" in Pittsburgh. That's because the revered venue, Blue Slide Park, has implemented new measures that may put the future of the fan-driven event dedicated to Mac Miller "at risk."

In a recently released statement to fans, Cody Lee and Marc-Andre Lauzon of Mac Miller Memoir — who've organized the event for the past five years — revealed that their regularly scheduled festivities will not happen at the park. The city reportedly rejected their permit "due to concerns of people drinking or smoking in close proximity to the playground."

"It's understandable that many of you will still visit the Park throughout the weekend to honor the spirit of the event," the statement reads. "We encourage those to be respectful and considerate of the surroundings, ensuring a safe environment for all park visitors."

Mac Miller Memoir launched the event to honor the late rapper one year after he passed away. They held a daytime event at Blue Slide Park in Pittsburgh because it was the inspiration behind the title of Miller's debut studio album, which dropped in 2011. Fans would gather at the park for a day full of memorable activities before they headed to a separate venue at night to continue the party. For the first time in the event's existence, the three-day event will only be held at one venue.

"It won’t be the same feel since the Park had so much meaning to everything, but it’s the best we can do this year," Cody and Marc tell iHeartRadio. "We left the day open on Saturday as well so attendees can go and visit the park on their own and then come back for the main party at the venue."

The team is currently working on a way to make their grand return to Blue Slide Park. In the letter, they encourage fans to contact the city with positive messages about their memories at the event. In the meantime, Macheads will still be able to celebrate the memory of the beloved rapper in his hometown.

Mac Miller Memoir and their partners at Other People Need Food plan to host the event at Velum Fermentation in Pittsburgh on Labor Day Weekend. Beginning Friday, August 31, fans of all ages can enjoy an art gallery, installations, artists, DJ sets, and more before the main 21+ party on Saturday night. There will be more artist performances on Sunday in addition to free BBQ and a community drive. The event will also return to Los Angeles for its second year on September 6.
