Jourdan Delacruz, a 26-year-old weightlifter from Wylie, Texas, is making her mark on the international stage. Born in 1998, Delacruz has already competed in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and is now preparing for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
Delacruz's journey in weightlifting has been marked by determination and success. She is a Junior World silver medalist and a 2018 National Champion weightlifter for Team USA. She holds the USA Weightlifting Youth and Junior records in the 53kg weight class. According to Ascent Protein, Delacruz became the first woman to hold the following three records in two different body weights simultaneously (49kg & 55kg): American record in snatch (89kg), American/PanAm record in clean & jerk (108kg), and in total (195kg).
In 2020, Delacruz won the gold medal in the women’s 49kg event at the Roma 2020 World Cup. Despite a disappointing experience in Tokyo, Delacruz scored a bronze medal at the world championships as she builds towards Paris, according to Team USA.
Off the platform, Delacruz is pursuing her Bachelors in Nutrition and Dietetics from the University of Northern Colorado, expected to graduate in 2023. She also plans to earn a Masters in Nutritional Science with an emphasis in sports nutrition from the University of Georgia, with an expected graduation in 2025.
