Vernon Norwood, a 32-year-old athlete from New Orleans, Louisiana, is making his mark on the international stage as a member of the U.S. Olympic team. Standing at 6-foot-2, Norwood is listed as an alternate athlete in the 2024 Paris Olympics for the Men's 400 m and 4x400 relay team. This isn't his first time at the Olympics, as he was part of the Men's 4x400 relay team that won a gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. He also won a bronze medal with the mixed 4x400 team.
Norwood's journey to the Olympics began at Louisiana State University (LSU), where he became the 14th sprinter in collegiate history to sweep NCAA indoor and outdoor titles in the 400 meter in the same season. He won four NCAA National Championships in just two seasons at LSU.
According to Team USA, Norwood was part of the U.S. foursome that extended Team USA's 4x400-meter relay winning streak to five consecutive titles, combining world championships and Olympic Games.
Norwood's competition schedule for the 2024 Paris Olympics includes the Men's 400 m round 1 on August 4, the Men's 400 Repechage round on August 5, the Men's 400 m Semi-Final round on August 6, the Men's 400 m Final on August 7, the Men's 4 x 400m Relay Round 1 on August 9, and the 4X400 final on August 10.
