Katie Ledecky Wins Record Fourth 800-Meter Gold Medal At Paris Olympics

American swimmer Katie Ledecky won gold in the women's 800-meter freestyle Olympic final for a record fourth consecutive time at the 2024 Paris Olympics on Saturday (August 3).
Ledecky finished with a time of 8:11.04 with Australian Ariarne Titmus placing second at 8:12.29 and American teammate Paige Madden taking bronze with a time of 8:13.00. The 27-year-old is the first female athlete to win four gold medals in the same event.
Ledecky is the the decorated American female swimmer in Olympic history, having won 14 total metals, including nine golds, a record among female athletes, since initially winning the 800-meter freestyle at the age of 15 during her international debut at the 2012 London Olympic Games. The Washington, D.C. native had previously won gold in the 1500-meter freestyle on Wednesday (July 31), silver for Team USA in the women's 4x200-meter freestyle relay on Thursday (August 1) and bronze in the 400-meter freestyle final on Saturday (July 27).
