Born and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada, Vashti Cunningham is a three-time Olympian and one of the most promising high jumpers in the world. Standing at 6-foot-1, the 26-year-old athlete has been making waves in the world of athletics, with her sights set on breaking records.

Cunningham's journey to the top has been nothing short of remarkable. She first burst onto the international track and field scene in 2015 with a win at the Pan American Junior Championships, clearing 1.96 meters. In 2016, she won the World Indoor Championships at 1.96 meters and the U.S.A. Indoor Track and Field Championships at 1.99 meters, setting a new American Junior record. That same year, she finished second at the U.S. Olympic Trials at 1.97 meters and made her Olympic debut in Rio. At just 18 years old, she was the youngest U.S. Track and Field athlete to make the team since 1980.

Coached by her father, former NFL quarterback Randall Cunningham, Vashti turned pro in 2016, declining college scholarships in both volleyball and track and field to accept an offer from Nike. She attributes her success to her father's coaching, her years of ballet study with her mother, former Dance Theatre of Harlem ballerina Felicity de Jager Cunningham, her natural abilities and physique, and her lifelong determination to keep up with her older brother, Randall Cunningham Jr., also a star high jumper.

In 2019, Cunningham established a personal best mark of 2.0 meters and is now aiming to set a new American women's record at 2.02 meters. The current women's world record in high jump, at 2.09 meters, has stood since 1987.

Cunningham's recent accomplishments include matching her personal best high jump of 2.0 meters at the American Track League in February 2021 and finishing third at the Doha World Championships in 2019. She is now preparing for her third Olympic appearance at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
