MGK just celebrated a huge milestone in his sobriety journey; however, no one but those closes to him even knew he was sober. The rapper-turned-rocker-turned-country-singer revealed that he went to rehab last August and has been sober for a year during the season eight premiere of Bunnie XO's Dumb Blonde podcast.

“I’m completely sober from everything,” MGK declared. “I don’t drink anymore. I haven’t drank since last August.”

“I didn’t tell anybody outside of those closest to me, but I went to rehab right when we got off the European tour last year,” he explained. “That was my first time I ever went to rehab, and man they just gave me so many ways to operate the body and show where this anger is coming from and methods to quell it. I ended up falling into an awareness of what my condition is, and have made peace with it, and it’s a constant tightrope walk.”

The musician didn't feel comfortable disclosing the "condition," saying it "feels a little too brand new for me to confidently say,” but detailed his road to sobriety and noted two special people who've helped him along the way: his partner Megan Fox and daughter Casie Colson Baker, whom he shares with ex Emma Cannon.

“Megan has for sure been extremely helpful in dealing with the kind of psychological withdrawals,” MGK said. “I love that I’m clear when I look at the person I love, I’m really happy that I’m clear when my daughter and I are having our conversations and I’m coming from a place of being centered and holding space for what a child needs from their parent which is patience and advice.”

“You know Casie, one of the biggest things that killed me in that relationship was when she would be like, ‘Dad I know you're high,’” MGK admitted. “That is like the ultimate sign of just disappointment in yourself. I continue to embrace that this journey’s gonna be hard for me, but I accept it and forgive myself.”

As for Fox, MGK said: “Megan, she saw who I truly was and she was just waiting for that to be able to come out.”

Generally speaking, MGK noted that his personal relationships have gotten stronger since he got sober. “That’s been a huge reward for me,” he said, “and I give a lot of props to everyone around me for never quitting before I got to this point, because I really hope that I’m a lot more of a pleasure to be around.”

Sobriety wasn't the only thing MGK opened up about during the podcast. He also opened up about his tumultuous relationship with his mother and what he regrets never saying to his late father. Listen to the full episode below.
