Catalina GNoriega, a 21-year-old archer from San Diego, California, is making her Olympic debut at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. Despite starting her archery journey without a bow, using only rubber bands and PVC pipe bows, GNoriega has risen to the top of her sport and is now representing the United States on the world stage.
GNoriega's journey to the Olympics has been marked by determination and resilience. She was chosen as an alternate for Team USA at the Tokyo 2020 Games, a disappointment that fueled her ambition. She told WorldArchery.sport, "I always knew I wanted to be competitive in archery, but that experience really pushed me over the edge."
Despite the setback, GNoriega continued to work hard and improve her skills. Her efforts paid off when she and the USA women's team won gold at the 2023 Pan American Games and the 2024 Pan American Championships. Now, she is proudly representing her country at the Olympics, a dream come true for the young athlete.
Off the field, GNoriega is set to start college later this year to study business. She remains humble and appreciative of her journey, acknowledging the hard work of her competitors and expressing gratitude for the opportunity to compete at the highest level of her sport.
