Former President Donald Trump said "illegal immigration saved my life" during a Spaces conversation with billionaire Elon Musk on X Monday (August 12) night.

Musk acknowledged that Trump turned his head to look at a slide on illegal immigration during an assassination attempt at his Pennsylvania rally in July that resulted in his ear being grazed.

“Speaking of the sort of slide that got you to turn, that saved your life really, was the illegal immigration slide,” Musk said. “That slide saved your life.”

“Illegal immigration saved my life, you’re right," Trump responded.

“That’s a great one. Saved by illegal immigration,” Musk added.

The former president once again used illegal immigration as a talking point to bash Vice President Kamala Harris, his presumed Democratic opponent in the 2024 presidential election, specifically noting an incident in New York City, which he blamed on Harris and President Joe Biden's administration's policies.

“I saw it today in New York, where somebody was knifed, where they raped the girlfriend of a man that stood there watching in New York in one of the shelters and started pulling out the knives. And bad things happen today, but this is happening every day,” Trump said. “We’re already overwhelmed. Elon, we’re overwhelmed. You had to see the news tonight about New York — New York, and I love that place, and what they’re doing to it is horrible. What they’re doing to it, and all the courts do is they try and focus on Trump.”

The X Spaces conversation took place Monday night after a delay Musk claimed was due to technical difficulties.
