JT Money was surrounded by family, friends, and the Poison Clan while he was presented with a prestigious award from his hometown.
On Saturday night, August 31, the veteran rapper, born Jeffrey Thompkins, was presented with a proclamation declaring July 4 as "JT Money Day" in Miami. He received the recognition from the Miami-Dade County Mayor's Office during a special event at the Art of Hip-Hop in Wynwood. With DJ Epps on the turntables, JT Money reacted to the award before he sat down for an open discussion about his life and career with celebrity barber Juice.
"I'm just happy, honored, blessed, humbled, thankful and grateful," JT said.
"I appreciate it," he continued. "It feels good to be recognized by the city. We put in some work and set some things off in the early '90s/late '80s as a group with Poison Clan. I got my squad with me and we just kept it going."
The award was presented to honor JT Money's 30-year career from his come-up with Poison Clan under Uncle Luke's record label to his sixth studio album, which dropped in the middle of the summer. His official day coincides with the release date for his Immortal LP. The album holds 15 tracks including the lead single "Miami Mount Rushmore" with Rick Ross and Trick Daddy plus other collaborations with 8Ball & MJG, CeeLo Green, Trap Beckham, Poison Clan, and more.
His collaboration with Poison Clan is the group's first new song together in nearly three decades. It's a taste of what to expect from the group's forthcoming album coming soon.
"We never split and broke up," JT told iHeartRadio in July. "I just finally got them n***as to work. We was never mad at each other. We always together."
