Residents Discovered Body In Suitcase Behind New York Apartment Complex

Authorities in New York have launched a homicide investigation after a woman discovered a suitcase with a dead body inside it behind her Long Island apartment complex. A woman named Taylor told News 12 that she was walking through the wooded area behind the building when she smelled a foul odor.

"I was taking a walk, and I just, I smelled something. I saw a whole bunch of flies. I had looked over and I saw the suitcase," she told the news station. "So then I called it in; I was like, I'd rather be safe than sorry. This is out of the ordinary. This is not normal."

The suitcase was partially opened with a foot or shoe sticking out.

Officers arrived and cordoned off the area while they collected evidence. Officials have not identified the body, which was taken by the Suffolk County Medical Examiner's Office to undergo an autopsy to determine how they died.
