Chappell Roan launched a blazing arrow to kick off her fiery performance at the 2024 MTV VMAs on Wednesday night (September 11). The rapidly-rising pop icon took the stage at the UBS Arena in New York City with her hit single, “Good Luck, Babe!”
Roan, 26, donned a suit of armor — as did her crew of backup dancers, dressed as knights with swords — as she aimed her crossbow at a castle on the stage and ignited a blaze. The arena crowd roared for the Best New Artist winner, also known for “HOT TO GO!,” “Pink Pony Club” and other anthems, particularly since releasing her latest full-length record, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess.
Roan was deemed an iHeartRadio On The Verge Artist earlier in the year after debuting “Good Luck, Babe!” That was just one milestone on her meteoric rise to fame, which has been years in the making. Roan recently shared with Rolling Stone that she was “in severe denial” of her massive growth in social media followers amid her career boom, and she hailed it her “dream job.”
Roan was one of several artists taking the stage during the 2024 VMAs on Wednesday night, along with Camila Cabello, GloRilla, Halsey, Lenny Kravitz, LL COOL J, Megan Thee Stallion, Sabrina Carpenter, Fat Joe, Eminem and more. Keep up with iHeartRadio’s performance coverage, eye-popping red carpet looks, backstage moments, a live-updated list of winners throughout the evening and more. Watch Roan’s performance here:
