The Pittsburgh Steelers are preparing for Justin Fields to once again start at quarterback in Week 3 as Russell Wilson continues to recover from a lingering calf injury, head coach Mike Tomlin confirmed during his press conference on Tuesday (September 17).

"We're kind of in the same posture as we were in last week with Russ," Tomlin said via ESPN. "As I sit here today, Russ is not scheduled to be a full participant in practice [Wednesday], and so we're readying a plan that features Justin and his readiness."

Wilson, 35, who signed with the Steelers as a free agent and was named as the team's starter prior to the season, was a limited participant in practice last week before being ruled inactive for the second consecutive game. Fields, 25, who was acquired in a trade with the Chicago Bears days after Wilson, has led the Steelers to a 2-0 record in two starts, throwing for 273 yards and one touchdown on 30 of 43 passing, while also recording 84 yards on 22 rushing attempts.

"We'll follow Russ throughout the week, and if his participation gets to a level in participation and quality where we should consider him, we'll delve into that at that time, and obviously when that happens is a component of the consideration," Tomlin said via ESPN. "But as I sit here today, he is not scheduled to be a full participant tomorrow in practice and so we're readying ourselves around Justin and we'll stay in that mindset until something else happens. Hypotheticals is a waste of our time now."

The Steelers will host the undefeated Los Angeles Chargers at Acrisure Stadium on Sunday (September 22).
