Brutal details from the alleged incident that led to New England Patriots safety Jabrill Peppers' arrest have been revealed.
Peppers, 29, a team captain, and his girlfriend were reportedly involved in an altercation when he allegedly "hit her, choked her, took off her clothing and put her outside," according to a Braintree Police Department incident report obtained by WCVB. The victim told responding officers that Peppers put his hands on her neck, slammed her head into a wall and threw her down stairs during the alleged incident.
Peppers' attorney, Mark Brofsky, disputed the claims while standing alongside his client, who pleaded not guilty, during an arraignment in Quincy District Court on Monday (October 6), claiming they had video "and other" evidence that "sheds real doubt on the allegation."
“What I said in the court room, I’ll repeat, that we have evidence that completely contradicts the alleged victim’s story, and I expect my client to be fully exonerated,” Brofsky said while speaking to reporters outside the courtroom.
Peppers was charged with "assault and battery, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, strangulation, and possession of a Class B substance believed to be cocaine" during an arraignment on Monday (October 7), the Braintree Police Department confirmed to ESPN's Mike Reiss. The alleged assault victim received treatment at the scene.
Peppers was absent from the Patriots' 15-10 loss to the Dolphins on Sunday, having been ruled out on Saturday, though he had previously dealt with a shoulder injury that limited him in practice last week. Police announced Peppers' arrest on Monday, noting that they responded to a report of an altercation between two people at a residence early Saturday morning.
The Patriots issued a statement confirming that they were "aware of an incident involving Jabrill Peppers over the weekend in which the police are currently investigating," but refrained from additional comment via ESPN. Peppers is in his eighth NFL season, joining the Patriots in 2022 after stints with the Cleveland Browns (2017-18) and New York Giants (2019-21). The former first-round pick recorded 23 tackles, one interception and one pass defensed in his first four games of the 2024 season.
