Katy Perry has come a long way since skyrocketing to stardom in 2008.

The "California Gurls" icon spoke with Ryan Seacrest in a 2017 interview about the evolution of her career and her character since becoming a world-renowned pop star.

"You know, in 2008 it was crazy. It was like I was holding on to this rocket for dear life and now I really feel like I am surfing this rocket. The rocket is not riding me."

She continued:

"And I think I used to do a lot more 'queen of innuendo' and now it's a little bit more diverse 'queen of subtext' maybe... or princess...however you want to label me I don't care. But I'm 32 now. I'm really accepting of myself and have done a little work in that area and it's really paying off because I'm having fun and feeling free."

The songstress concluded by revealing she feels the most authentic she's ever been.
