11/14/24 Blog: The Scoop On Weight Loss Drugs, Plus No Recess Appointments

November 14, 2024

THE CAUTIONARY PART OF WEIGHT LOSS DRUGS To be clear, I am NOT anti-weight loss drugs. They have been life changing for several people I know and I think you should lose weight in a way that works best for you. That being said, there are some things you should know before embarking on that path and I've got Pharmacist and integrative health expert Dr. Swathi Varanasi-Diaz joining us to break down the lesser-known dangers of these popular medications and how we can mitigate the risks. She's on at 1pm. Find out more by clicking here.

JUST HOW IS THE REAL ESTATE MARKET DOING? Ed Prather joins me for the last real estate market checkup of the year at 12:30. We'll find out how the market is doing and if now is a good time to sell. If you need Ed's help, find him by clicking here.

JINX HAD HER DREAM COME TRUE TODAY This morning when I let my big, slow Saint Bernard out there was a deer stuck in our backyard. Chaos ensued. I'll share today.

REPUBLICANS ARE OPENLY FIGHTING ON TWITTER And I'm not going to lie, I'm glad. The clowns in leadership need to know how despised they are, as do the people who keep supporting this dumpster fire. Rep. Elect Jarvis Caldwell started the brouhaha by pointing out that he got a congratulatory call from Governor Jared Polis but NOT from party leadership. Then it got bad quickly when the Colorado GOP responded with excuses Caldwell immediately shot down. The the internet piled on. Read about it here or check the entire thread for yourself here.

The Colorado GOP Twitter account is a perfect microcosm of the mindset of the people running the party. Childish, stupid bitch fighting is on the only thing they are good at.

APROPOS OF NOTHING I saw this yesterday and I'm not going to be the only one profoundly disturbed by it, dang it.

THIS IS NOT WHAT RECESS APPOINTMENTS ARE FOR When I heard yesterday that Trump wanted the Senate to come to order and then recess so he could make recess appointments for his Cabinet, especially with Matt Gaetz, I got mad. This is NOT what recess appointment power is supposed to be used for. Obama got his hand slapped by the Supreme Court when he appointed a bunch of people to the National Labor Relations Board in this fashion and the more conservative justices all joined an opinion by the late great Antonin Scalia in which he said:

As Scalia explained in a lengthy statement from the bench that followed Breyer’s summary of the Court’s decision, he and his three colleagues would have held that the president’s recess appointments power is substantially more limited than the Court ruled today. For example, they would have ruled that the president can only make recess appointments during inter-session recesses, and only then to fill vacancies that are created during that recess. And the majority did not escape Scalia’s trademark incisive remarks, as he criticized it for relying on an “adverse-possession theory of executive authority: “Presidents have long claimed the powers in question, and the Senate has not disputed those claims with sufficient vigor, so the Court should not ‘upset the compromises and working arrangements that the elected branches of Government themselves have reached.’”

Three of the justices who joined this opinion are still on the bench and have been joined by even more conservative justices so I would expect Trump to have his nominations invalidated too. By the way, Gaetz already resigned from Congress. None of the other appointees have. You know why he resigned? Because the House Ethics investigation was due to release their findings, which now won't happen because he isn't a member of Congress. How convenient. I've got Daily Caller News Foundation reporter Katelynn Richardson on at 2:30 to discuss.

JOHN FETTERMAN EXPLAINS THE GAETZ APPOINTMENT

CENTRAL CITY DOESN'T NEED A STRIP CLUB We recently went up to Central City for the weekend to spend a day at the Spa at Monarch Casino (it is a FANTASTIC spa) and we walked around Central City for a bit. It doesn't take long because there is nothing to see but casino after casino. I don't gamble, so other than the spa, there is NOTHING to do there. Literally nothing. No shows, no entertainment that isn't smack dab inside the casino, nothing. Contrast that to last weekend in Las Vegas. I've been visiting Las Vegas since 1991 and the changes since then have been gobsmacking. The number of FAMILIES in Vegas still shocks me, but there is so much to do that isn't gambling a family vacation to Las Vegas isn't totally crazy. Central City needs a place to do something other than gamble. I realize the casinos think they don't want this because it takes people away from slot machines, but Vegas seems to know something that planners in Central City are missing, which is increased traffic outside means increased traffic inside. Read more here about a study done that showed that strip clubs would increase police calls for why I'm bringing this up.

POLIS LINES UP THE SCAPEGOATS FOR HIGHER ELECTRIC COSTS Governor Jared Polis needs to prove the country that HE is the guy to find the way to move to renewable energy without jacking up energy costs, even though every single place it's been tried has seen rates skyrocket. In order to protect himself from blame when this inevitably happens, he sent a letter to all parties involved cautioning them to do it "right". Check this out:

"Other states that have not carefully managed the electrification transition are seeing large increases in utility rates," he said, noting that California has seen utilities rates more than double in the last decade due to what he described as poor management of its electrification transition.
"If done well, these efforts can continue to incentivize economic growth and investment in Colorado, and provide more transparency and regulatory certainty for everyone living and doing business in Colorado," he said.

This is just cover for him when the rates go up. You'll see him wring his hands and say " I warned them" when our power bills skyrocket. This is such an obvious CYA. I actually admire him for his long term strategic political thinking here. He is a most excellent politician to be sure.

DENVER'S CHRISTKINDL MARKET NAMED ONE OF THE BEST In the US by a blog called Food Drink Life. It's also up for the Top 10 in USA Today's rankings and you can vote on it here. Read more about the market here.

PRIME SAYS NO TO THE COWBOYS But let's be real, Buffs fans have been lied to blatantly before so I always take such denials with a grain of salt.

OPIOID DEATHS DECLINED THIS YEAR And pretty dramatically although this article is about nationwide numbers and not just Colorado. I'm hoping we're seeing the numbers go down here too. Read this for more.

A PARKING NEMESIS CEASES OPERATIONS no one loves a tow company unless your car is broken down and you've got to get it somewhere. That being said, Wyatts Towing has long been a thorn in the side of drivers who found their cars gone from their parking spot when they returned. The company was fined, found to be predatory, and even the Towing Association supported new legislation a year ago to stop them. Now Wyatts has been sold to a reputable towing company.

800 MILLION PEOPLE WORLDWIDE HAVE DIABETES Holy cow, this is a LOT. The numbers have skyrocketed since 1990 because of big upticks in poor and middle income nations. Richer nations have already seen the huge spikes. India and China lead the way with the largest number of diabetics, but they are not alone. Read it here.

COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES ARE NERVOUS ABOUT TRUMP And they should be as he's promised to go after the DEI nonsense that has infested our schools. He's also likely to roll back changes to Title IX made by Biden that allows trans women to compete against natal women as well as use their locker rooms. Read more here, but I hope he does all of this. Just go scorched earth on it all.

THE VIEW IS IN A PANIC Because they realize their current panel is completely out of touch with America. Well duh. They are trying to bring a pro-Trump voice to the show, but why would anyone want to do this job? I'd volunteer but why would you want to go work with these bitchy women? Seriously.

ABOUT THOSE WOMEN SEX STRIKING FOR KAMALA Not sure if you've heard, but some progressive women are on "strike", promising not to have sex or get married or date because of the election. This column calls them out for falling right into a sexist trope about women using sex as punishment. At least some of them are shaving their heads so we can see them coming.

INSIDE THE MEDIA COLLAPSE This is a great article about the navel gazing going on at major media outlets as their ratings are cratering and layoffs are taking over.

AN UPDATE ON THE STANFORD PRISON EXPERIMENT A long ago experiment that seemed to show that given the right set of power dynamics it's very easy for humans to default to the worst possible behavior. Now a documentarian has done a deep dive on the experiment and found that not is at it seemed to be. Read it here.

BIDEN TREATS HITLER VERY WELL After a campaign where we were told by his team that Donald Trump was LITERALLY HITLER it's odd how nice Biden is to him here. Odd. Watch below or click here.

@cnn

President Joe Biden met with President-elect Donald Trump and said that he looks forward to a “smooth transition” in January, adding he will “make sure” his predecessor and successor is accommodated as he retakes the White House in January. #cnn #news #election #election2024 #politics

IF YOU MISSED YESTERDAY'S INTERVIEW ON NEAR DEATH EXPERIENCES It was SO GOOD. Find it here.

THE BRONCOS JUST INSTALLED A NEW FIELD Mid season, in the interest of player safety. So far I love this ownership group.

AN UNBEARABLE CRIMINAL SCHEME ENDS BADLY I would have loved to be there when these three morons came up with the idea to dress up like a bear and trash three cars to commit insurance fraud. They really did it. Now they have been arrested.

LINDSEY VONN IS TRYING TO MAKE A COMEBACK And the forty year old skier is going to compete next year and I'm rooting for her.

BRONNY JAMES'S CAREER IS GOING NOWHERE FAST After being drafted by the Lakers after an entirely unremarkable season as USC, he's now been demoted after playing a few games with his Dad and Benefactor Lebron James. He's been sent to the G-League for "development" but apparently his Nepo Baby status means he's only going to play PART TIME. It's been reported that Bronny can't be bothered to play road games, so he will only play home games. This is going to make him toxic in the NBA. He needs to earn his stripes, not be coddled like this. I feel bad for the kid.
