Deputies with the Volusia Sheriff's Office and members of the Volusia County Fire Rescue engaged in a dramatic rescue on Lake Dias in DeLeon Springs, Florida, on Tuesday (February 5). A patrol boat spotted a small vessel spinning in circles and went to investigate.
First responders noticed a person was unconscious on the boat while it was spinning in circles. The officers pulled up alongside the out-of-control boat and tried to direct it toward the shore. While they managed to move the boat closer to land, it continued to spin in circles, forcing the officers to board the smaller vessel.
Technical Rescue Deputy Team Leader John Kyp hopped into the smaller boat and turned off the engine. He then began providing first aid to the unconscious man.
The man was taken back to the patrol and returned to shore, where he was taken to the hospital for treatment. Officials said the man, who was not identified, is expected to make a full recovery. They did not say what caused the man to lose consciousness.
The sheriff's office shared two videos of the rescue on X, which include aerial video and body camera footage.
