Latest On Aaron Rodgers' Future With New York Jets

The New York Jets have reportedly had discussions with quarterback Aaron Rodgers regarding his future with the franchise and Rodgers' decision could come as soon as this week, a source with knowledge of the situation confirmed to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero on Sunday (February 9).

"The #Jets are closing in on decision time for Aaron Rodgers. And that will have ramifications for every other QB," Rapoport wrote on his X account.

Last month, Jets owner Woody Johnson said Rodgers' future would ultimately be made by the team's next head coach prior to hiring Aaron Glenn and Darren Mougey for the respective positions.

“From a numbers standpoint, [Rodgers] did OK, except for the most important number – winning games,” Johnson said during an exclusive interview with the New York Post's Brian Costello. “But that’s going to be up to the coach. The coach will have to decide what the quarterback situation is. That’s going to be a very important job for the general manager and the coach – what do we want and when do we get it and what’s our timeline. Where does Aaron Rodgers fit into that?”

Rodgers, 41, was acquired in a trade with the Green Bay Packers in 2023 and pegged to be the missing piece for a team that hadn't made a postseason appearance since 2010.

The four-time MVP champion suffered a season-ending Achilles injury during his first drive with the Jets in 2023 and experienced one of the worst seasons of his career in 2024, leading the team to a 5-14 record.
