Archduchess Estelle Of Austria Dead At 46

Archduchess Estelle of Austria died at the age of 46 earlier this month, her family announced in a statement through the Carnet du Figaro (h/t the Daily Mail).

Estelle, who shares five children with her husband, Archduke Carl Christian, died after a battle with cancer and was laid to rest at Cimiez Monastery in Nice, according to her family.

"Her husband, Archduke Carl Christian, their children, her parents, and her in-laws are deeply saddened to announce that Archduchess Estelle of Austria, née Lapra de Saint Romain, was called to God on Tuesday, March 4, 2025," the statement reads.

Estelle and Carl Christian, the great-grandson of Austria-Hungary's last ruler, Emperor Charles I, were married during a ceremony in Montgirod in 2007 and honeymooned in Mexico. The Austrian monarchy was abolished in 1918, however, the family has since remained a part of European aristocracy, which includes participating in charitable services for the region.

Archduchess Estelle's death was reported weeks after Prince Frederik, the youngest son of Prince Robert of Luxembourg and Princess Julie of Nassau, was reported to have died at the age of 22. Frederik was born with POLG Mitochondrial disease, which the family was unaware of initially, as he was later diagnosed at the age of 14, "when his symptoms were showing more clearly and when the progression of his disease had become more acute."
