Video Shows Multi-Story Building Crumbling During 7.7 Magnitude Earthquake

A dramatic video shared online shows a multi-story building with a crane crumbing down during a 7.7-magnitude earthquake in Southeast Asia on Friday (March 28).

The video, which was captured near Bangkok's popular Chatuchak market, showed onlookers screaming and running from the scene in a panic. At least three people were killed and up to 100 others were reported missing after the under-construction skyscraper was brought down during the natural disaster, authorities in Thailand confirmed via the New York Post.

Seven people were reported to have been pulled from the rubble while 90 others were said to still be missing, Thailand's Defense Minister Phumtham Wechayachai announced, acknowledging that the site was still too unstable for first responders to conduct rescue missions for victims trapped beneath the destruction.

The earthquake was centered in Mandalay at a depth of 10 kilometers (about six miles), according to the United States Geological Survey. The USGS said it received more than 1,400 reports of people having felt the earthquake at the time of publication.

A 6.4-magnitude earthquake was reported in Burma minutes later, according to the United States Geological Survey. The USGS said it received 83 reports of people having felt the aftershock at the time of publication.

At least three people were killed after a mosque partially collapsed in the Myanmar town of Taungoo, according to the New York Post.
