New York Giants vice president of communications Pat Hanlon fired back after President Donald Trump claimed he warned the team not to let running back Saquon Barkley sign elsewhere.
Trump gave Barkley a shoutout while hosting his current team, the Philadelphia Eagles, during their Super Bowl celebration at the White House on Monday (April 28) and claimed he personally told members of the Giants, including head coach Brian Daboll, not to let the running back enter free agency prior to his eventually signing with New York's division rival.
“With all due respect, stop yapping. Be the leader we all want you to be. And my 401K wants you to be. I’m trying to retire!!” Hanlon wrote on his X account while tagging Trump.

Barkley, 28, who agreed to a new two-year, $41.2 million contract extension in March, signed a three-year, $37.75 million contract with the Eagles this past offseason after spending the first seven years of his NFL career with the rival Giants. The former Penn State standout recorded an NFL best 2,005 yards and 13 touchdowns on 345 rushing attempts during the regular season and 499 yards and five touchdowns on 91 attempts during the postseason, which included 57 yards on 25 rushing attempts during the Eagles' Super Bowl LIX win against the Kansas City Chiefs.
