High Prices Cause Americans to Cut Back on Snack Purchases

April 29, 2025

Many Americans are cutting back on buying their favorite snacks as prices continue to rise. PepsiCo, the company that makes popular brands like Frito-Lay, Doritos, and Cheetos, recently reported a drop in snack sales. They say that customers are starting to pull back on buying salty and savory snacks because they simply cost too much right now.

Financial experts believe there are a few reasons behind this trend. One big reason is the fear surrounding the economy. Many consumers are worried about the effects of new tariffs introduced by former President Trump. These tariffs have caused prices on many goods, including food, to go up. On top of that, people are concerned about a possible recession, so they are trying to save money wherever they can.

Snacks, which used to feel like an affordable treat, are now becoming a luxury for some families. Items like chips, cookies, and other packaged foods have jumped in price, making them easier to skip during grocery shopping trips.
