Mary J. Blige is being sued by her former friend and stylist, Misa Hylton, over allegations that the R&B singer intentionally sabotaged her artist Vado's career due to his ties with Hylton.

According to a report AllHipHop published on Tuesday, April 29, Hylton and her talent agency M.I.S.A. Management filed a lawsuit against Blige in New York. Hylton claims Blige ruined her business relationship with Vado by convincing him to sign with her label, Beautiful Life Productions, even after the New York rapper reportedly committed to her management company first. She also accused Blige of withholding Vado's album until he cut all ties with Hylton and her company.

The lawsuit cites two agreements Vado signed in 2023. Legal documents show the 40-year-old artist signed a management deal with Hylton on July 25, and a recording deal with Blige's Beautiful Life Productions on October 1. Blige and Vado collaborated on the singer's song “Still Believe in Love,” which dropped the same year he signed with her.

However, Blige's head of security, who Hylton claims is also Blige's boyfriend, also wanted to sign Vado himself. He allegedly told Vado to sign a new contract without legal representation. He also warned that Vado could "lose out on opportunities" if he stayed with Hylton's management company.

After Blige released her collaboration with her artist, Vado worked in the studio and completed his first album under the imprint in July 2024. Hylton alleged Blige told Vado that she would intentionally withhold his album and halt all touring opportunities if he didn't cut all ties with Hylton. In her lawsuit, Hylton claims Blige left Vado in “economic servitude." She said he can't earn enough income to pay advances from his recording deal.

Hylton is suing Blige for breach of contract, emotional distress, and interference with her business relationships. She wants $5 million in damages and requested an injunction to prevent Blige from disrupting her future business deals. As of this report, neither Blige nor Vado has commented on the lawsuit. The singer-actress is currently busy with her "For My Fans Tour" with NE-YO and Mario.
