Brinks Truck Spills $300K on Busy Street in Oak Park, Illinois
April 30, 2025
In a wild scene just outside Chicago, a Brinks armored truck accidentally dropped three large bags of cash onto a busy street in Oak Park, Illinois. The unexpected money spill happened while the truck was driving through the area. Surveillance footage shows the truck’s back door swinging open, and the bags tumbling out onto the road.
The total amount of money lost is believed to be at least $300,000. As the bags hit the street, crowds of people nearby quickly ran into the road to grab as much cash as they could.
At this time, Brinks has not made an official statement explaining how or why the back door opened. The cause of the lock malfunction is still unknown.
Oak Park police have confirmed that there is an active investigation underway. They are asking anyone with information about the incident to come forward. They are also urging people who picked up any of the money to return it.
Authorities say that even though it may have been tempting to grab the loose cash, keeping the money could lead to legal trouble. If you see something or know someone who took part, the police encourage you to speak up.
