Reds fall to Cards in Game 1

April 30, 2025

Cardinals 6 Reds 0

Miles Mikolas and three St. Louis relievers stymied the Reds on just three hits. The Cardinals blew open a 1-0 game in the 9th with three consecutive homers and five runs off Alexis Diaz.

Record: 16-14.

Offense:
It’s the fourth time they have been shutout this season. After Elly’s 1st inning single, they didn’t add another hit until Trevino with 2 outs in 5th. Threatened/forced a pitching change in the 6th, but stranded two.

Elly: 13 game hit streak/18 game on-base streak.

Callihan: 0 for 2 ML debut. Started in LF, batting 9th.

Fraley: 0 for last 15 start

Steer: 2 for 38 at GABP. 13 for 50 (.260) on road.

Lux: BB. 12 game hit streak snapped.

Singer: 6 IN, 2 H, 1 R, 3 BB, 4 K, 92 pitches. ERA 3.24. Masyn Winn HR as 2nd batter of game. Winn also homered off Diaz.

Defense:
Friedl: Nice running catch took away an extra-base hit.
McLain turned a bases loaded 1-out liner into DP in the 7th.
Trevino threw out a would-be-base stealer.

Bullpen:
Rogers 7th, Barlow 8th
Diaz 9th: HBP, 1B, 2-R HR, HR. It was his first career multi-HR appearance. ERA now 12.00.

I would think Diaz is sent to Louisville. After 34 pitches, he wouldn’t be available tomorrow, even if they wanted to pitch him. They’ll need a fresh arm.

How they scored:

Challenge! The Reds were 2-for-2 on challenges.
