Amazon Denies Plans to Show Tariff Costs Next to Prices
May 1, 2025
Amazon has confirmed that it is not planning to show added tariff costs next to product prices on its website. This comes after a recent report caused confusion and sparked backlash from the White House, which believed the e-commerce giant was about to display import charges for customers to see.
The White House strongly criticized the idea, assuming it was a finalized decision. However, it turns out the criticism was based on a misunderstanding. According to Amazon, no official plans were made to list tariffs alongside product prices.
Tim Doyle, a spokesperson for Amazon, said that the idea came up during internal discussions but was never approved. He explained that the talks were limited to Amazon’s newer low-cost storefront called “Haul,” which offers budget-friendly items. Only Haul briefly considered listing tariffs on some products to give customers more pricing transparency.
Still, Doyle made it clear that the plan will not move forward. “This was never approved and is not going to happen,” he told the Associated Press.
