Thomas Rhett kicked off the 2025 iHeartCountry Festival presented by Capital One on Saturday (May 3) with a career-spanning set of some of his biggest hits.
Taking the stage at the Moody Center in Austin, Texas, which he shouted out as one of his favorite venues to perform in, Rhett opened up with an "oldie but a goodie," "Make Me Wanna." The track, from 2013 debut album It Goes Like This, set the tone for his set as the crowd grooved along.
He kept that energy going into the next song, "Look What God Gave Her," from his fourth studio album 2019's Center Point Road, cheekily pointing and singing to fans in the crowd before moving into "Beautiful as You," the lead single from his August 2024 album About a Woman and one that he wrote about his wife, Laura Akins.
Joking that he was "working at 70%" after his recent ankle injury, he encouraged the audience to dance in his place as he crooned "Somethin' 'Bout A Woman," dedicated the track to all the ladies in the house. Though it was originally featured on About a Woman, he put out a remix with Teddy Swims a couple months later.
Rhett toned things down with "After All The Bars Are Closed" from the same album, singing how he doesn't want the night to end in front a backdrop covered in lights like a nighttime sky full of stars. He ended his set with "Die A Happy Man," from his 2015 album Tangled Up, as the crowd lit up the arena with lights while he crooned the song dedicated to his wife. After wrapping up with the band, he did one final a cappella chorus with the crowd loudly singing along to the ballad.
Rhett's return to the stage comes weeks after he suffered a ankle injury while making a surprise appearance at singer-songwriter Forrest Frank's show in Nashville. Though he was able to finish out the performance, he was in so much pain that he left the venue in a wheelchair before getting medical attention.
He later shared an update giving fans a glimpse of the boot he had to wear, adding that nothing was broken and it was only a "pretty gnarly sprain." Fortunately, he was in good in spirits about the unfortunate injury, jokingly renaming his "Better In Boots Tour" to "Better In Boot Tour."
Hosted once again by iHeartRadio's Bobby Bones, the 2025 iHeartCounty Festival had a full night of star-powered performances from some of the biggest names in country music, including Brooks & Dunn, Thomas Rhett, Rascal Flatts, Cole Swindell, Sam Hunt, Megan Moroney, Bailey Zimmerman, Nate Smith and special guest Dasha. Don't forget to catch up on all the incredible fashions from the red carpet.
