A Special Place in Balboa Park That is Coming Back
May 5, 2025
Things come and go and that’s true for a lot of things in San Diego lately.
Such as favorite places we like that close down. In recent times there have been longtime popular stores and chains that have announced closings, places like Joanne Fabrics just recently and going back several years ago to Toys R Us.
Places we grew up with maybe or that we took out kids to.
But sometimes, a favorite place can come back. Any regular visitor to Balboa Park knows this place.
The former Village Grill, a small walk-up restaurant with concrete tables outside between the Casa del Prado Theatre and the Spanish Village Art Center that has been closed for the past eight years will soon come back to life under new management.
The San Diego Union Tribune says the co-owners of a couple of other restaurants, Panama 66 in Balboa Park and Blind Lady Ale House in Normal Heights, have been selected by the City of San Diego to renovate the quick-service restaurant location.
The former Village Grill, built in 1973, last served customers in 2017
The announcement last Friday by the city was welcome news to the man thousands of visitors over the years who made the Village Grill a very popular stop when going to Balboa Park and one of those little special places in San Diego.
