Brutal: Braves walk off Reds, 2-1 in 10 innings
May 7, 2025
Braves 2 Reds 1 (10 innings)
Marcell Ozuna laced a game-winning single off Lyon Richardson in the bottom of the 10th inning to hand the Reds a fourth straight loss and six in their last eight.
The Reds (18-19) had snapped a 0-0 tie in the 8th on Santiago Espinal’s one out RBI single. But the Braves tied the game in the bottom of the 9th on a double off Emilio Pagan that scored pinch-runner Stuart Fairchild all the way from 1B when Matt McLain hesitated on his relay throw to the plate.
The Braves are now 1-14 when scoring 3 or fewer. The Reds fall to 3-6 in 1-run games.
Offense: 7 H, 3 BB, 17 K. 1 for 13 w/ RISP. 2 runs in the last 27 innings.
Espinal: H, RBI. 7 game hit streak (12 for 26).
McLain: H, BB, HBP, 2 SB (8 for 8). Season: 17 BB, 17 H.
Wynns: 2 H, 2B.
Friedl: H, 2 BB, SB.
Dunn: 0 for 3, 3 K. 0 for last 15 w/ 10 K , 1 for last 20.
Stephenson: 0-5, career high 5 K
Abbott: 5 IN, 4 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 8 K, 91 pitches. 9 BB in previous two starts/8 innings. Got a break when Eli White’s 2nd inning double bounced into the stands, holding runner at 3rd.
Really? Wynns’ 7th inning 2B hit yellow line top of LF wall, bounced up, down into play.
Chances:
1st: Friedl and McLain reached, Elly K, Stephenson K, Espinal ground out.
7th: Wynns leadoff double. Hurtubise pinch-ran. Trevino ground out/no advance. Dunn K. Friedl BB. Sale replaced. McLain K.
8th: Elly leadoff 1B, SB. Stephenson K. Espinal RBI 1B.
Bullpen: Ashcraft: 1-2-3 6th. Done after the first two reached in 7th.
Santillan: 2.0. 1st multi inning appearance this season. 27 pitches.
Pagan: 1.0 IN, R.
Richardson: H, BB, unearned run
Jam: Scoreless in 7th, Braves put runners in the corners w/ no outs. Santillan replaced Ashcraft. Santiago came home w/ chopper for 1st out. Line out. BB. Ground out.
Marte: Late scratch w/ left side pain. Wynns moved into the lineup at 1B, moving Steer from 1B to LF (1st time this year) and Espinal from LF to 3rd. Leaving all three catchers in the lineup. Wynns had one previous career appearance at 1B (1 inning/2021).
Challenging: Reds lost a challenge on Dunn hit by pitch/foul tip strike three. Tito is certainly very accepting of the umpires.
How they scored: 7th Espinal RBI 1B, 1-0 Reds
Defense: Nifty pick at 1B by Wynns. Steer nice pick to end the threat in 7th.
