Denzel Washington, ASAP Rocky & Ice Spice Star In Spike Lee's New Film

Spike Lee has reunited with Denzel Washington and joined forces with A$AP Rocky for his new joint.

On Monday, May 5, the esteemed filmmaker finally debuted the trailer for his upcoming A24 film Highest 2 Lowest. The 51-second trailer shows Washington as music mogul "David King" who gets caught up in a crucial ransom scheme that makes him choose between his goals and humanity. The film is an English reinterpretation of Akira Kurosawa's 1963 Japanese film High and Low, which is inspired by Ed Bain's 1959 novel King's Ransom. A$AP Rocky, Jeffrey Wright, Ilfenesh Hadera and Ice Spice also star in the film.

Highest 2 Lowest will be the fifth film Spike Lee and Denzel Washington have made together. They first joined forces on Mo’ Better Blues in 1990 followed by other hits like Malcolm X, He Got Game, and Inside Man. A$AP Rocky already has a few acting credits under his belt, beginning with his debut role in the 2015 film Dope and Monster in 2018 with Jennifer Hudson and Nas. He has also appeared in films like Zoolander 2 (2016) as himself. Meanwhile, this will be Ice Spice's debut film role.

Spike Lee plans to debut Highest 2 Lowest in Cannes later this month, before the film premieres in theaters at the end of the summer. The movie will hit Apple TV+ in September. Look out for Highest 2 Lowest in theaters August 22. Watch the official trailer below.
