North Carolina Man Scores $1M Lottery Win: 'Once-In-A-Lifetime Dream'

A man in North Carolina scored what he called a "dream" win after a lucky lottery ticket landed him a $1 million prize.

Kenneth Formyduval, or Whiteville, was leaving work last week when he got the idea to pick up a lottery ticket. Following his instinct, he purchased a $30 MAX-A-MILLION scratch off ticket from Minuteman Foot Mart on South Madison Street, according to a release from the NC Education Lottery.

"I just got a wild hair and decided to buy one," he said. "Something just told me to get that ticket."

It's a good thing he listened to his intuition as the Columbus County man won of of the game's top prizes.

"It was like a once-in-a-lifetime dream," he said, adding that he shared the news with a coworker and fellow lottery player. "He gave me a fist bump."

Formyduval claimed his prized at lottery headquarters on Monday (May 5), where he had the choice to receive his win as either an annuity of $50,000 over the course of 20 years or as a one time, lump sum payment of $600,000. He ended up choosing the latter and was able to take home a whopping $430,508 after all required state and federal tax withholdings. He told lottery officials that he plans to use his new winnings to pay off his truck and may buy a house.

According to the lottery website, the MAX-A-MILLION game launched in March with 25 top prizes of $1 million as well as 10 prizes of $100,000. Following Formyduval's win, 21 top prizes remain to be claimed as do all 10 $100,000 prizes.
