The Castellows delivered a stunning rendition of “one of the greatest country songs ever written.”

The Georgia-born trio of sisters — Ellie, Lily and Powell Balkcom — appeared on a recent episode of God’s Country, hosted by brothers Dan and Reid Isbell. The podcast episode included The Castellows’ rendition of a classic ballad that late country star Dan Seals released in the mid-1980s. The Castellows hailed “Everything That Glitters (Is Not Gold)” “one of the greatest country songs ever written” as they concluded their performance on the podcast.

“But oh, sometimes I think about you/ And the way you used to ride out/ In your rhinestones and your sequins/ With the sunlight on your hair/ And oh, the crowd will always love you/ But as for me, I've come to know/ Everything that glitters is not gold”
“This week Reid and Dan host Georgia Trio, The Castellows, out in God’s Country. Lily, Powell, and Ellie share their love for bow hunting whitetail, fishing, and turkey hunting. There is a contentious conversation on who kills the biggest deer and other pressing questions that will have you laughing out loud as you are listening. They share what growing up on their farm in Georgia looked like and how they had to drag one sister to Nashville because she never wanted to leave. All five of them discuss the musical dynamic of siblings and how the harmonies of siblings are unparalleled. The episode ends with some of the most beautiful harmonies you’ve ever heard and an Emmy Lou Harris gravorite that’s one of the best yet.”

Dan and Reid — who have written music for Luke CombsMiranda LambertScotty McCreeryJon PardiLainey Wilson and others — started their weekly podcast in early January 2024. Some of the first guests to appear on the show include HARDYDustin LynchColbie Caillat and others.

“One of our favorite things about country music has always been how intertwined it is with the outdoors,” Dan and Reid Isbell said in a statement when God’s Country launched. They hope to “bring the outdoor enthusiast or country music lover an up close and personal look into the minds of some of the best songwriters and artists of the genre — a place where they can be honest about struggles, relationships, their connection to the outdoors, the music business, family, whatever they feel comfortable talking about. We can’t wait to see where this partnership will lead and who this podcast will reach.”
