Milwaukee County Circuit Court Judge Hannah Dugan has been indicted by a federal grand jury on charges of obstructing immigration agents. The indictment accuses her of interfering with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents attempting to detain an undocumented immigrant, Eduardo Flores-Ruiz, during a court appearance in April. Dugan allegedly told ICE agents they needed a judicial warrant and directed Flores-Ruiz to exit through a different door to avoid arrest.

Dugan, who was arrested last month, faces charges of obstructing a proceeding and concealing an individual to prevent his arrest. If convicted, she could face up to six years in prison and fines up to $350,000. Her attorney, Craig Mastantuono, stated that Dugan maintains her innocence and anticipates being cleared in court.

The Wisconsin Supreme Court has temporarily suspended Dugan from her duties to preserve public trust in the judiciary. Her actions have sparked protests in Milwaukee and criticism from U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi, who emphasized the administration's commitment to prosecuting those who interfere with federal immigration enforcement.

Dugan's arraignment is scheduled for Thursday (May 15).
