A San Antonio mother, Ashley Pardo, 33, was arrested on Monday (May 12) for allegedly aiding her son's plan to carry out "mass targeted violence" at his middle school. Pardo faces charges of aiding in the commission of terrorism after purchasing ammunition and tactical gear for her son, according to a Bexar County arrest affidavit.

Authorities began investigating after discovering concerning drawings by Pardo's son, including a map labeled "suicide route" and a sketch of a rifle. In January, the boy was suspended for researching the 2019 New Zealand mosque shootings on a school computer. Despite these red flags, Pardo reportedly told school officials she was not concerned about her son's behavior.

On May 12, a relative contacted police after finding an improvised explosive device, live ammunition, and tactical gear in the boy's possession. The boy had told the relative that his mother bought him these items in exchange for babysitting his siblings. The boy was later arrested off-campus, prompting increased security measures at Rhodes Middle School.

The arrest affidavit states that Pardo was aware of her son's intentions and supported his violent expressions. She was released from custody on a $75,000 bond and is scheduled for a court appearance on July 17. School officials have assured parents of their commitment to maintaining a safe environment.
