A 15-year-old illegal immigrant was sentenced to two years probation and 100 hours of community service in relation to the high-speed crash that killed a Colorado drug rehab worker in July 2024.

The Colombian national, who cannot be named publicly due to their juvenile status in adherence with state law, accepted a plea deal for a vehicular homicide charge from Arapahoe County District Attorney Amy Padden, CBS News reported. The accident, which took place in Aurora, killed Kaitlyn Weaver, who was returning home from work when she was struck by a Jeep Cherokee traveling more than 90 MPH in a 45 MPH residential neighborhood.

"She didn't even see him coming," said John Weaver, the victim's father. "That's how fast he was going. She was effectively killed instantly."

Weaver was reportedly talking to her boyfriend on a speakerphone while stopped at a stop sign and allowed a car to pass before she crossed into the intersection, at which point she was T-boned by the teen's vehicle. Photos shared by the Aurora Police Department showed the driver's side of Weaver's car was completely mangled after the crash took place.

Weaver was hospitalized for two days before her parents took her off life support and donated her organs. The teenager, who was unlicensed to drive the vehicle, had other underage passengers with him in the Jeep at the time of the fatal crash.

The teen's mother told investigators that she planned to move him back to Colombia, however, the suspect has since filed for asylum in the United States, according to CBS News.
