A Message for Teens and Their Parents From a Teen
May 21, 2025
It’s graduation season with thousands of college graduates getting their degrees, thousands of high school seniors getting their diplomas, thousands of 8th graders becoming high schoolers and even thousands of 6th graders being promoted to junior high.
And that means it’s a time for looking ahead and thinking more about the future of your kids and your job as a parent and how it might be changing.
Anyone who has had kids knows that no matter how old they get, you are still and always will be their parents,
And so the worrying a parent does about their kids doesn’t end with a promotion, or a diploma or a degree.
As years go by, things in the world change and your kids face things at times that maybe you did not when you were their age.
Things like the pressure associated with social media.
A teenager this week in a letter to the San Diego Union Tribune had some advice for her fellow teens.
She wrote that “Social media has created a false image of how we should look, causing teens to compare themselves to others.”She adds, “This has caused major damage to our society, making some believe beauty is the key to success when in reality education is the key to success.”
She went on to say, “We must speak out about the damage that social media is doing to teens and break down the false image of beauty.”
A powerful message for kids and their parents. Share it.
