A Florida high school teacher accused of having an eight-month relationship with one of her underage students allegedly had sex with him hours before her arrest.

Brooke Anderson, 27, a former teacher at Riverview High School, was charged with three counts of unlawful sexual activity with a minor, according to a Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office news release shared last week. The student told authorities that his relationship with Anderson began in September 2024 when they started sharing explicit text messages and escalated to multiple incidents of sexual activity in the weeks leading up to her arrest on May 16, which is when their most recent sexual encounter took place inside the teacher's classroom prior to the start of the school day.

“This teacher betrayed the trust of a student, a school, and an entire community,” said Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister in the news release. “What should have been a safe, supportive environment for learning was exploited for abuse. Her actions are criminal, calculated, and deeply disturbing.”

Anderson was booked into Hillsborough County Jail on May 17 and released on bail set at $45,000, equivalent to $15,000 for each count, according to PEOPLE.com. Unlawful sexual activity with a minor is considered to be a second-degree felony in the state of Florida and carries up to 15 years in prison.

A Hillsborough County Public Schools spokesperson confirmed that Anderson was no longer part of the district in a statement to the New York Post following her arrest.

“Ms. Anderson had been with the district since November 2021 and taught Biology,” the spokesperson said. “She has been suspended pending termination. She passed all required screenings and background checks prior to being hired.”
