Daniel Williams, the founding drummer for The Devil Wears Prada, died early Thursday morning (May 22) in a plane crash. When news of the accident broke, it was confirmed that Sound Talent Group co-founder Dave Shapiro was one of the victims and the plane's pilot. Shapiro represented bands like Sum 41, Story of the Year and Lamb of God. Williams was 39 years old and Shapiro was 42.

The Devil Wears Prada confirmed that their former drummer was one of the victims in an Instagram post that also included photos of Shapiro. "♥️ no words. We owe you everything. Love you forever," they captioned the post.

Williams co-founded The Devil Wears Prada in 2005 and parted ways with the band in 2016.

Two other Sound Talent Group employees who have yet to be identified were victims in the fatal accident. According to airport officials, the 1985 Cessna Citation aircraft was traveling from Teterboro, New Jersey and crashed at roughly 4am PT in the Tierrasanta neighborhood of San Diego. It's unclear how many passengers were on the private plane, but there are not thought to be any survivors. Eight people on the ground were also injured.

“We are devastated by the loss of our co-founder, colleagues and friends,” said a spokesperson for Sound Talent Group. “Our hearts go out to their families and to everyone impacted by today’s tragedy. Thank you so much for respecting their privacy at this time.”

Shapiro was an experienced pilot and owned his own flight school called Velocity Aviation, where he served as a flight instructor. The cause of the crash has yet to be determined. See The Devil Wears Prada's emotional post below.
