Miley Cyrus pushed through "excruciating" pain caused by a medical emergency while hosting her New Year's Eve Party.
In a new interview, the "Flowers" singer revealed she suffered a ruptured ovarian cyst while she hosted Miley's New Year's Eve Party with her godmother Dolly Parton as they rang in 2023, per People.
"I had a pretty traumatic experience on a show that I was doing with [Lorne Michaels] when I was doing my New York's show," she said. "I had a medical emergency. I had an ovarian cyst rupture. We didn't know exactly what was going on so we did it."
Despite the incredible pain she was in, Cyrus pushed through to continue with the show, though it wasn't without its difficulties. She admitted, "It was pretty traumatic because it was extremely excruciating and I did the show anyway. But it was really really hard on me."
According to the Mayo Clinic, ovarian cysts are common and usually cause little to no discomfort and can often go away without treatment. However, they can sometimes rupture and cause serious symptoms like "severe pain and bleeding inside the pelvis."
The "More to Lose" hitmaker even considered taking some time away after her scare, Page Six reports. She recalled discussing the possibility with Michaels, who co-executive produced the NYE show, and the poignant advice he gave to encourage her to keep going that has "stuck with [her]."
"He goes, 'Six months. Everybody has six months to feel sorry for themselves and then we start to rebuild,'" she said. "He's like, 'You have no idea how many artists have sat in this chair and told me they were quitting music. Everybody does this, everyone has these traumatic experiences."
Cyrus appeared to take the advice to heart, recently launching her new era ahead of her forthcoming album Something Beautiful, dropping May 30.
