A Virginia family is telling their unbelievable story of how going to bed early to rest up for a Metallica concert the next day may have literally saved their lives.

David and Kristin McKee went to bed earlier than usual on May 6 because they were planning on driving their 14-year-old daughter from their home in Goodview to Blacksburg's Lane Stadium to see Metallica live the next day. Normally, the couple stayed up late to watch TV in their living room but chose not to that night. Just hours after they went to bed, a pickup truck crashed into the front of their house.

“[I asked David,] ‘Do you wanna sit up?’ And he was like, ‘Nah, I think I just wanna go on to bed.’ I said, ‘I’ll go on to bed too.’ Then, just a few hours later, we heard a loud explosion, glass shattered. It was just madness from that point on,” Kristin recalled to local TV news station WDBJ7 “We were so fortunate that, that night, my daughter could have walked down that hallway and found us in the rubble. I thank God every day, and Metallica, for saving us.”

Metallica is still on the road for the 2025 North American leg of their M72 tour. Watch the full news story below.
