Lainey Wilson delivered the debut live performance of her starry-eyed new single on Monday evening (May 26) at the 2025 American Music Awards in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Wilson took the stage in a stylist pantsuit with signature bell bottoms and a cowboy hat, plus a long, dramatic cape flowing in the breeze behind her. The powerhouse singer-songwriter released “Somewhere Over Laredo” on Friday (May 23), and announced the deluxe edition of her latest record, Whirlwind. The extended version with five new tracks — including “Somewhere Over Laredo” — will arrive on August 22, marking the one-year anniversary of Whirlwind’s release. Wilson wrote her latest single with songwriters Trannie Anderson, Dallas Wilson and Andy Albert, honoring the timeless Wizard of Oz ballad performed by actress Judy Garland. The “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” nod blends with Wilson’s tribute to her country upbringing and “whirlwind” lifestyle.

“When I’m flying between shows I catch myself looking out the window, talking to God, dreaming, or even reminiscing,” Wilson said on Friday. “‘Somewhere Over Laredo’ tells a story that speaks to that. I’ve always been inspired by putting myself into other peoples’ shoes and telling stories from others’ perspective, but I’ve found a new creative avenue with this one putting myself back into a pair of shoes that I wore years ago.”
