Elon Musk expressed disappointment with a recent domestic policy bill backed by President Donald Trump, criticizing its impact on the budget deficit. In an upcoming interview with Sunday Morning, Musk shared his concerns about the bill, which he believes undermines the efforts of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a department he recently stepped back from leading.

Musk stated, "I was disappointed to see the massive spending bill, frankly, which increases the budget deficit, not just decreases it, and undermines the work that the DOGE team is doing." The bill, known as the "One Big Beautiful Bill Act," aims to extend Trump's 2017 tax cuts, increase border security spending, impose Medicaid work requirements, and roll back clean energy tax credits. According to the Congressional Budget Office, the bill could increase the deficit by $3.8 trillion by 2034.d

Musk's comments highlight a rare disagreement with President Trump, who has championed the bill. Musk, who also serves as CEO of Tesla, SpaceX, and the social media platform X, has been a prominent figure in the Trump administration's early months. However, he has indicated plans to reduce his involvement in government matters.

The full interview with Musk will air on June 1.
