Audrey McGraw’s powerful vocals take the spotlight in the singer-songwriter’s first original song to make its debut. “Thunder” arrived on Friday (May 30).
“You’ll weep silent tears, but they’ll feel like Thunder,” McGraw quoted her lyrics when she previously announced the ballad’s release date. “I wrote it sitting at the piano in Nashville, late at night. Per usual. My mind needed something to say after a long summer. And this came out. Whatever it means, now, whatever it means to you. It gave me some relief...”
McGraw’s newest ballad follows “I Am... I Said,” her powerful rendition of a classic ballad Neil Diamond released in the 1970s. McGraw, who is joining Grammy winner Brandi Carlile’s tour as a special guest on international dates said when she released her cover earlier this month that “the first time I heard this song, I felt something deep in my soul. One late night, sitting at the piano, I made it a part of me. In the studio we brought it to life.”
McGraw is the youngest daughter of country icons Tim McGraw and Faith Hill. Her two older sisters are Maggie McGraw, 26, and Gracie McGraw, 28. The “I Like It, I Love It” star said earlier this week that his daughter’s new song is “one of my favorites.” Listen to “Thunder” here:
