Fredro Starr reveals how Onyx was created and describes his journey to the top of hip-hop's food chain in his first-ever autobiography.

The seasoned rapper-filmmaker from Queens, New York, blessed an intimate group of fans during an exclusive book signing at the Art of Hip-Hop in Miami on Sunday, May 26. Accompanied by his cousin Kirk Jones a.k.a Sticky Fingaz, Fredro Starr spoke to fans about his new book, which is named after Onyx's 1993 debut album Bacdafucup, and signed a few copies for those who bought it while DJ Epps played Onyx's hits.

"I wrote this book, this is coming from the source," Starr told fans.

"A lot of time you might get a book about somebody when they pass away so you get book from everybody else's perspective," he continued. "I wrote this book and I think it's special when people write their stories. No matter who they are."

The book is a full account of Fredro Starr's life from his early beginnings when he and Sticky Fingaz were kids growing up in Queens. The first chapter begins with Fredro's story about how Sticky almost set him on fire after he was playing with matches under his bed. From there, the book documents Fredro's life from his original hustle as a barber to the moment when he picked up a pen to write his first rhyme.

In the book, he explains how he wrote his first bars for a rap battle, which he won. Soon after, he formed his rap group Onyx with Suavé, Big DS and B Wiz. He reflects on B Wiz, who was murdered during a drug deal gone wrong, and explains his cousin Sticky Fingaz joined the group in 1991. He also recalls the story of how he met Jam Master Jay before Run-D.M.C.'s DJ signed the group to his record label that same year.

Bacdafucup is the first of three books Fredro Starr has in store for fans. He said he's already working on the second book, which will revolve around his life when the group was creating their sophomore LP, All We Got Iz Us. The third book will focus on the making of the group's third album, Shut 'Em Down. The book is available for purchase now on Onyx's website and Amazon.
