MORE ON WHY YOU SHOULD VOTE NO ON DOUGCO ON HOME RULE I've said it before, I am NOT opposed to the concept of moving Douglas County to a Home Rule style of governance, but I am very much opposed to the way this is being handled in Douglas County and will be voting no. Mark is not only a paddler himself, he is also coach of the PASCO (Philippine-American Society of Colorado) Fighting Dragons, a local dragon boat team based out of Aurora, CO. He's been selected to paddle and represent Team USA in the Senior A division at the Dragon Boat World Championships in Germany! THE REAL HOUSEWIVES OF PALMER LAKE SHOULD BE FIRE Lord have mercy what the heck is going on in Palmer Lake. The tiny town is a hotbed of gossip and bullying right now, and the ante just got upped in a big way with the release of a series of messages via Signal between Darcy Schoening and the current Mayor Glant Havenar and they are not flattering. They show a level of nastiness and disdain for constituents that should be totally unacceptable to the people of Palmer Lake, and certainly seem to show the Mayor was working very closely with Buc-ees behind the scenes to get their deal done without any input from the citizens. You can click here to read it all, it's now part of a lawsuit about the way this whole thing has gone down so it's public record. If you don't like bad language, you don't want to read it. It reads like a middle school girl's slam book. If I'm Buc-ees I'm running in the other direction away from this mess. Three Board of Trustee members are facing a recall election now, and I'm not sure why the Mayor is not on that as well. Perhaps she will be after people see how she talks about her constituents. I'm sharing this because I am sick of this kind of politics and I don't care which party is doing it. Calling people who disagree with you "terrorists" is a HUGE part of the problem. It's not okay just because someone on your side does it.

WANT TO DO SOMETHING TO HELP THE JEWISH COMMUNITY? Yesterday I made a donation to this new fund that is specifically designed to provide more security for events where Jews gather. Honestly it is the LEAST I could and I wanted to let you know about it case you wanted to do something too.

THE DEPT OF ED IS INVESTIGATING JEFFCO SCHOOLS And FINALLY. JeffCo is being investigated for making a biological girl room with a boy who says he's a girl, which is a clear violation of Title IX in my view. From the Denver Gazette:

According to the news release from the Department of Education, Jeffco Public Schools is allegedly violating federal law with its policy that students will be “assigned to share overnight accommodations with other students that share a student’s ‘gender identity,'" rather than rooming by sex, breaking Title IX's inclusion of female students’ rights to sex-segregated intimate spaces.

The department claims to have heard "several disturbing" reports, including from parents of an 11-year-old girl discovering their daughter would have had to share a bed with a male student on an overnight school trip without being notified by the school, according to the release.

"The district allegedly misleads parents by informing them that girls and boys will be separated for overnight accommodations without divulging that its definition of 'girl' includes boys who claim a female identity," the release said.

Finally the insanity may be coming to an end. There are three seats open on this board this year and some sane candidates better step up.

TEACHERS UNIONS ARE MAD AT WHO THEY ELECTED And Jimmy Sengenberger explains here how they are now going after the same people they elevated because they aren't union-y enough. Sorry about your luck, even though this finds me on the same side as the unions although for much better reasons.

POLITICS MADE AN APPEARANCE AT LINDELL'S TRIAL You all need to keep a close eye on this defamation trial with Mike Lindell. During jury selection potential jurors were asked about politics and whether or not they had a My Pillow, often by the judge. Read more here, but this is going to be a banger.

BOULDER'S STATE REP WOULD RATHER HANG WITH AN ANTI-SEMITE I get that fundraising is important, but on a day when Jews were attacked in her district I find it especially egregious that Rep. Junie Joseph, who was probably elected with Jewish votes, chose to spend her day with rampant anti-Semite Rep. Ilhan Omar at a fundraiser. The icing on the cake is Joseph trying to blame the Trump administration for "scapegoating immigrants". Of course she did. It's not that I think she should have been at Pearl Street helping the FBI, but hanging out with someone who maybe secretly celebrated these acts is despicable.

THE NAVY FINALLY PAYS ATTENTION TO BARRACKS I always joke that if my daughter wants to go into the military she must join the Air Force because they have the nicest bases. I am encouraged by his story about the Secretary of the Navy being so appalled by the conditions of the barracks in Guam that he is demanding a full inspection of the rest of the Naval barracks as well. I'm pretty happy about this.

LIBERALS DISCOVER PHONICS WORKS Remember how we learned to read, me and you? We had to sound out words, making sure to understand how that E at the end of a sentence changed the vowel before it. It was called phonics, and we were hooked on it. California and most other states ditched phonics years ago for a stupid "whole language" style of teaching where kids were just supposed to guess what words were. I'm not even kidding. That's how it works. Which is why more kids can't read now. California is now touting this new thing called phonics like it was just invented. Who wants to tell them?

THIS IS WHY NON-THAI PEOPLE CAN'T HAVE THAI HOT A woman in California is suing a Thai restaurant she got there called "Dragon Balls". She says the dish burned her esophagus and vocal cords and right nostril and did permanent damage. This is my favorite part of the whole thing, from the TheSentinel.com:

The lawsuit claimed the Dragon Balls dish was advertised as spicy, and that Walia asked her server to make it with less spice because “she does not tolerate spicy foods.” The server said the chef would make the dish less spicy, the lawsuit alleged.

But almost immediately after she began eating the Dragon Balls, she “felt her entire mouth, the roof of her mouth, her tongue, her throat and her nose burn like fire,” and that her “eyes and nose watered, and she began coughing.”

Walia began to lose her voice and was diagnosed with internal “chemical burns” from the chilis in the Dragon Balls, the lawsuit alleged.

You literally ordered something called "Dragon Balls", lady. It was advertised as spicy. I hope the jury laughs her out of the courtroom. This is why non-Thai people can't get real Thai hot. Just saying.

WHAT DO ABLE BODIED, CHILDLESS MEDICAID RECIPIENTS SPEND THEIR TIME ON? This is going to be a tough one for the "PEOPLE WILL DIE" crowd who keep telling us these people are ALL working. They clearly are not. What are they spending time on instead of working, volunteering or some sort of training or schooling? Watching Tv and video games. Read it all here. Here is a good overview:

For Medicaid recipients who do not report working, the most common activity after sleeping is watching television and playing video games. They spend 4.2 hours per day watching television and playing video games, or 125 hours during a 30-day month. That is more than 50 percent higher than the 80 hours they would be required to work or otherwise engage with the community during at least some months under the reconciliation bill. They spend on average 6.1 hours per day, or 184 hours per month on all socializing, relaxing and leisure activities (including television and video games). In the average day they spend about 0.36 hours (i.e., 22 minutes) looking for work, 4.0 hours doing housework and errands, and 0.47 hours (i.e., 28 minutes) caring for others.

For Medicaid recipients who report working, the most common activity after sleeping is work. They work an average of 4.2 hours per day, or 126 hours per month, enough for the average working Medicaid recipient to comply with the community engagement requirement. Working Medicaid recipients spend a lower 2.7 hours per day watching television and playing video games, and a total of 4.5 hours on all socializing, relaxing and leisure activities.
