Carrie Underwood unveiled a dazzling new item as she marked milestone anniversaries on a legendary stage in Nashville, Tennessee.
The eight-time Grammy winner celebrated the 20-year anniversary of her debut studio record, Some Hearts, with a fan club event at the Grand Ole Opry on Tuesday afternoon (June 3), and gave attendees a sneak peek of a custom rhinestone microphone that she officially revealed when she performed back-to-back Opry shows later that evening (including a duet of “If It Was Up To Me” with surprise guest Ben Fuller). The “rhinestone milestone” mic stand that Underwood unveiled (and used) was commissioned in honor of the Grand Ole Opry's centennial celebrations. Performers will use the eye-popping mic stand throughout the Opry’s ongoing 100th anniversary celebration in 2025, per a press release issued shortly after midnight CT.
Underwood, who was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry in 2008, released Some Hearts after winning the fourth season of American Idol in 2005. The 14-track album included the title track, “Wasted,” “Inside Your Heaven,” and two of the Oklahoma-born country star’s biggest hits of her career, “Jesus, Take the Wheel” and “Before He Cheats.” “Jesus, Take the Wheel” recently ranked among the Greatest Country Songs, compiled in honor of the Opry’s anniversary and broken down by era. Underwood wrote in an Instagram caption on Wednesday morning (June 4) that “it was such an honor” to celebrate the 20th anniversary of her debut album with fans at the Opry.
Underwood also reflected on the start of her career throughout the latest season of American Idol. She returned to the show as a judge for the first time, and relived some of her most memorable moments on the Idol To Icon online series. In the most recent episode, Underwood watched longtime Idol host Ryan Seacrest crowned her the winner during the 2005 finale. Underwood admitted she felt “emotional” after watching that moment. She said it’s “been an incredible 20 years. It’s the ultimate Cinderella story, and I love that. We all love that. We love to see people evolve in front of our eyes. …This show made the impossible possible.”
