The feud between Elon Musk and Donald Trump exploded online Thursday (June 5), with the president calling the Tesla CEO "CRAZY" and the tech billionaire saying the Republican candidate would've lost the 2024 election without his support.

The public back-and-forth between the two former allies seemingly started Tuesday (June 3) after Musk slammed Trump's massive tax and immigration package as a "disgusting abomination."

"I’m sorry, but I just can’t stand it anymore," Musk wrote of Trump's self-proclaimed "big, beautiful bill." "This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination. Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it."

"It will massively increase the already gigantic budget deficit to $2.5 trillion (!!!) and burden American citizens with crushingly unsustainable debt," the tech billionaire added just days after his official White House send-off as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

During an Oval Office meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Trump said he was "very disappointed" with Musk's criticism of the bill.

"Look, Elon and I had a great relationship. I don't know if we will anymore," Trump told reporters Thursday.

The president then took to his Truth Social platform to suggest that the government could save money by ending contracts with Musk's companies.

“The easiest way to save money in our Budget, Billions and Billions of Dollars, is to terminate Elon’s Governmental Subsidies and Contracts,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social network. “I was always surprised that [former president Joe] Biden didn’t do it!”

Trump's comments sparked a firestorm of tweets from Musk, who said the president was showing "such ingratitude" after he spent over $270 million backing his 2024 presidential campaign.

"Whatever. Keep the EV/solar incentive cuts in the bill, even though no oil & gas subsidies are touched (very unfair!!), but ditch the MOUNTAIN of DISGUSTING PORK in the bill," Musk wrote. "In the entire history of civilization, there has never been legislation that both big and beautiful. Everyone knows this! Either you get a big and ugly bill or a slim and beautiful bill. Slim and beautiful is the way."

Musk also argued that Trump would have lost the election without his support.

“Without me, Trump would have lost the election, Dems would control the House and the Republicans would be 51-49 in the Senate,” Musk said on X, formerly Twitter.

The public feud appeared to reach a boiling point when Musk claimed that documents tied to the Jeffrey Epstein investigation hadn't been released because they mention the president.

“Time to drop the really big bomb: @realDonaldTrump is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public. Have a nice day, DJT,” Musk wrote on X.

“Mark this post for the future,” he added. “The truth will come out.”
